Section 1 - About Domain Names What is a domain name?   A domain name is a unique name that identifies a specific place on the Internet. An example of a domain name is 'Amazon.com'. Domain names can be up to 67 characters long. Do I need a web site to reserve a domain name?   No. It is important to reserve a domain name quickly, before someone else gets it - then think about creating a web site. Or not. Names are registered for a variety of other reasons: for investment purposes, to 'protect' other names, to attract additional visitors, etc. What if the domain name I want is not available?   Register a variation of that name. If the name consists of two or more words, try it with and without dashes. If it's a company name, include (or exclude) 'co' or 'corp' or 'company'. And if it lends itself to it, try singular and plural versions. Can I reserve more than one domain name?   You can reserve as many names as you like. If you are doing business on the Internet, additional names are useful to 'protect' your company name and increase traffic to your site. What's the difference between COM, NET and ORG names?   These extensions were originally intended to identify COMmercial firms, NETwork providers and non-profit ORGanizations - but that intent is now largely ignored. COM names are still preferred for commercial web sites, but ORG and NET names are often reserved to 'protect' COM names - to keep others from getting them. For how many years should I reserve a domain name?   If it is a company name, or names 'protecting' a company name - a longer period of time is better. You don't want to risk losing a name each year if you forget to renew. For 'investment' names, shorter periods might be more appropriate.

Section 2 - The Registration Process Do I need to furnish any technical information to register a domain name?   No, only the domain name that you want and basic name/address information. Is there a delay before my registration is submitted?   No, domain registrations are submitted within seconds of the completion of your order. Are there any additional fees?   No, the fees quoted on our web site are the only fees necessary for domain ownership. There are no additional charges. When a domain name is registered, who is the actual owner of the name?   You are. You can change it or move it whenever you want - without our permission or involvement. Or you can just leave it on our server.

Section 3 - After Your Domain Name Has Been Reserved I just reserved a domain name, why does it still show as 'available'?   It may take a day or two for a newly reserved domain name to make it's way to the Internet databases. Until it does the name will still show as 'available'. But it is not available. Once you receive our email confirmation, the name is yours and may not be reserved by anyone else. I entered incorrect information when I registered a name, how can I change it?   You can correct the information online by accessing our Maintenance Control Panel and using the registry key shown in our e-mail confirmation. I lost your email confirmation, how can I find out what my registry key is?   You can request to have your registry key emailed to you via the following page. I tried to change my domain information, but my registry key doesn't work?   Make sure that domain name and registry key are entered in lowercase and do not enter any additional spaces. If possible, cut and paste domain name and registry key directly from our confirmation e-mail. I spelled my domain name incorrectly when I registered it, how can I change it?   Unfortunately, it can't be changed. You can change just about anything on a registration, but you can't change the domain name itself. The new domain name would have to be registered just as the old name was. How do I start using my domain name?   Upon registration, your domain name 'points' to our servers. If you have free space (from AOL or geocities, for example) we can 'forward' (redirect) your name to that space. Or you can open a web hosting account with a web provider and have the name 're-pointed' to their servers. Click here for more information on how to start using your domain name. What is web forwarding (as mentioned above)? How can I get it?   When your domain is entered in a browser, the browser gets to our server and is then re-directed to any URL you specify. We offer one year free web forwarding, $25 per year after that. To have your domain forwarded, please visit the following page. How can I use my domain name if I open a web hosting account?   Your web host will provide you with their primary and secondary nameserver information. You can then click on 'Modify Domain' on our web site to change the initial registration data - and 're-point' your domain name to their servers. You mention 'free domain parking' on your web site, what is that?   Your domain name points to our server, to a temporary page which indicates that your name was reserved. It is 'parked' on our server and can remain there indefinitely - at no charge. Or if you choose, you can re-point it to another server.

Section 4 - Registrar Transfers - Switching to our service Can I transfer or renew a domain name originally registered with a different company?   Yes. Protect yourself by registering the variations yourself. If you have a COM name, register the ORG and NET versions. If your name has two or more words, register it with and without dashes. If it makes sense, register singular and plural versions. How can l-o-n-g domain names boost my search engine rankings?   Search engines react to keywords, and 'keyword rich' l-o-n-g domain names tend to rank higher on search engine searches.
